New 16-bit microcontroller sets new performance and power efficiency benchmarks
Performance 0.71 DMIPS/MHz
-
Power consumption below 1mW/MIP
-
50MHz low cost Flash MCU
Cambridge, UK - 15 June 2009. Cambridge-based fabless semiconductor company Cyan today announces the launch of the eCOG16E01. With Cyan's new CyCore CPU at it's heart, this 16-bit microcontroller outperforms other 16-bit MCU's. In Dhrystone v2.1 benchmarks, the eCOG16E01 has achieved 0.71 DMIPS-MHz, which exceeds the performance achieved by leading MCU suppliers.
"We are confident that we have the results to prove that this device leads the industry on the key metrics of low power consumption, coupled with high performance." comments Kenn Lamb, Cyan CEO. "The eCOG16E01 sets the new performance benchmark, enabled by the development of the CyCore CPU. And we haven't forgotten code density. CyCore packs a lot of program into a very small space."
The eCOG16E01 is a high performance 16-bit microcontroller with industry leading code density that typically uses 45% less program memory. This enables the eCOG16E01 to be very price competitive, as it requires half as much memory for the same functionality, and is still large enough for protocol stacks, RF nodes and industrial sensor applications.
The eCOG16E01 has been specifically designed for low power. Unusually for a 16-bit device, the use of cache memory minimises power hungry flash accesses and enables high CPU clock speeds, thus increasing CPU performance and reducing power.
"Cyan now supplies a 16-bit MCU that has very low active and standby power consumption, very high performance, excellent code density and a flash size that supports complex applications, all at a very competitive price. The CyCore CPU is the new industry leader" added Lamb .
Key Facts:
- 50 MHz maximum CPU clock frequency
- 0.71 DMIPS/MHz performance (Drystone 2.1 Benchmark)
- 0.65 mWatts/MHz power consumption
About Cyan
