Motor Control-Solved™

Motor Control-Solved™ provides a motor speed controller solution encompassing operational descriptions, modular software blocks and reference design hardware for driving 3-phase brushless DC (BLDC) motor and permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM).

Both BLDC motor and PMSM are gaining widespread use in various consumer and industrial applications, due to the motor high efficiency and linear speed/torque characteristics, the latter giving predictable speed regulation and performance.

The eCOG1X is a peripheral-rich, low power 16-bit microcontroller that naturally lends itself to embedded motor control applications. It hosts a number of motor control specific peripherals that aid and simplify the motor control application software executed by the microcontroller processor core. An integrated flexible multi channel PWM timer block allows direct control of the power driver stage. Full four quadrant drive operation is possible, providing acceleration and deceleration torque with the motor running in either direction. The eCOG1X also features fast conversion ADC with simultaneous sampling and hardware triggering, allowing phase voltage and stator current to be monitored, and input capture timer for interfacing with Hall effect positional sensor.

Modular software blocks and hardware reference design completes the motor control solution. The hardware external to the eCOG1X can be scaled up easily to support larger motors, requiring only minor changes to certain software parameters. The core motor control software routines are proven and remain the same, independent of the motor size.

Applications include white goods such as washing machines and refridgerator compressors as well as industrial motors.
